Obtaining An Unsecured Credit Card

A credit score can either be a dream come true or a living nightmare based upon what the numbers show. It can mean a good place to live and even obtaining the job of your dreams. It can also mean the difference between obtaining a college loan or being forced into a credit card for bad credit scenario, which in turn means high interest rates and outrageous fees for membership. When you first receive an unsecured credit card, you must learn to use it wisely and only for the college expenses that are truly a necessity.

A Stafford loan does not base its requirements upon credit scores, but private college loans do. If the student has bad credit due to irresponsibility with an unsecured card, then they can find themselves being denied. This denial can make the difference between going to school and getting an education, and not being able to attend and losing all hope of getting that job of your dreams. Many are forced to turn to a credit card for bad credit, which means paying very high interest rates and high membership fees in order to use the card.

When you first turn eighteen, most department stores will offer an unsecured credit card that can be used within their chain of stores. This is a perfect opportunity to begin building a good credit history. You need to make sure that you always pay your bill on time and keep the balance to credit ratio low. Credit scoring companies look at this and many credit card companies will use this as a determining factor in approving or denying your application.

An unsecured credit card in the hands of a responsible student or individual is a fantastic way to increase credit scores. But many students find themselves in way over their heads by not acting responsibly with their new found status as a legal adult. Irresponsibility can lead to being denied a college loan and even affect future employment and relationships by having unpaid debt looming overhead. Use credit wisely and a world of possibilities are opened to you through job opportunities, low interest home rates and even the car of your dreams. It can also help you get your degree.
